Minister: Russia harvested 1 mln tns, crop yield down year-on-year

MOSCOW, Jun 22 (PRIME) -- Russia has harvested more than 1 million tonnes of grain as of Friday, but the yield is lower than in 2017, Agriculture Minister Dmitry Patrushev said at a government meeting.

“As of today, the Russian Federation has harvested more than 1 million tonnes of grain, and we can say that the crop yield is about 4 hundredweights per hectare lower than we saw last year,” he said.

Farmers of the Krasnodar and Stavropol regions and in the republics of Crimea and Adygeya had to start harvesting 20 days earlier than usual because of drought.

Patrushev also said that the ministry still forecasts Russia’s grain harvest at up to 100 million tonnes in 2018.
